TV Globo Celebrates Ten-Year Anniversary

SÃO PAULO: To celebrate ten years of TV Globo Internacional, the Central Globo de Comunicação has developed a campaign that incorporates various commemorative activities, scheduled to celebrate the anniversary in different corners of the world.

Since its launch in 1999, the channel has shown an average subscription growth of 35 percent per year. "At the start, TV Globo Internacional only had one signal for the whole world," said the head of the international division, Ricardo Scalamandré. "Currently we have four different signals, customized for different continents. And for next year, we intend to launch a fifth signal, exclusively for Africa, which today is one of our main markets."

Scalamandré also announced a recently finalized deal: "We just signed a contract with Verizon one of the largest American communications operators that will transmit our signal via IPTV. Including this brand-new partnership, today we have 52 pay-TV operators."

Part of the campaign the Central Globo de Comunicação has put together includes a jingle, We’re United by a Common Emotion, composed to commemorate the ten-year anniversary. Also a special logo was created that will be shown on TV Globo Internacional throughout the whole year. "The campaign is the reflection of what happens on the channel," explained Marcelo Spínola, the director of international distribution. "Over time, we grew and through our programming, all of the Portuguese-speaking communities around the world come together."

The channel will also be covering the 25th edition of Brazilian Day New York, held on September 6, with Regina Casé as presenter. The director Luis Gleiser will create a special program about Brazilian Day New York that will be broadcast by Rede Globo in Brazil on September 13. Brazilian Day New York will be broadcast on September 12 for subscribers in the Americas, Europe, Africa and the Middle East.
