Tsunami Drama Headlines BBC Two Fall Schedule

LONDON, July 20: BBC Two’s fall season unveiled today
includes Tsunami—The Aftermath, a
fictional drama set in Thailand that is based on first-hand research and
interviews.

"The 2004 Asian tsunami shocked and devastated the
world, touching the lives of people everywhere,” said Roly Keating, the
controller of BBC Two. "Since then, many questions have been asked and
answers have been sought, but what this drama is able to do—through the
searing writing talent of Abi Morgan—is to explore the cultural and
personal fault lines that can be ruptured when catastrophe strikes. Tsunami—The
Aftermath
really gets inside the issues and
lessons for humanity raised by a disaster of such extraordinary magnitude. Its
intention is to mark the unique nature and scale of this tragedy, and to pay
tribute to some of the victims' and survivors' incredible courage."

Factual highlights, meanwhile, include Stephen Fry
– The Secret Life Of The Manic Depressive
and Simon Schama's Power of Art, as well as the docudrama Nuremberg. Lighter fare for the fall includes The
Choir
, Oz and James' Big Wine
Adventure
and the culinary series Heston
Blumenthal—In Search Of Perfection
.

On the entertainment front, there’s the sketch comedy series
That Mitchell & Webb Look
, the clip
show Time Trumpet and a second
season of Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant's Extras with appearances from Orlando Bloom, David Bowie,
Chris Martin and Sir Ian McKellan, among others. Catherine Tate also returns to
the schedule with a third season of The Catherine Tate Show.
