Thematic TV Channels to Deliver $120 Billion in 2016

PARIS, May 16: According to a new report from Euroconsult,
thematic TV channels worldwide will deliver $120 billion in revenues in 2016,
up from the $57 billion recorded in 2006, itself a 9-percent gain on the
previous year.

The report, Thematic
TV channels, Key Economics and Prospects to 2016
, is due to be
released next week. It reports that six U.S. media groups—Time Warner,
Disney, Viacom, News Corp., Liberty Media and Discovery—currently account
for around 38 percent of the thematic TV channels broadcast worldwide, and
generated around 57 percent of the revenues in 2006.

There were a total of 1,167 thematic TV brands in 2006, for
a total of 5,065 individual channels. This is expected to rise to 1,826 and
9,937 by 2016.
