LOS ANGELES: Basic Lead’s The Remakes Market, dedicated to adaptation rights for TV and film projects, will run as two events next year, with one held in Paris on June 11 and 12 and another in Los Angeles on November 8 and 9.

The Remakes Market wrapped in Los Angeles this week, with 86 adaptation rights buyers taking part in the three-day event. Buyers were in attendance from The Weinstein Company, CBS Films, Warner Bros. Pictures, FremantleMedia North America, Entertainment One and more. A selection of 95 film, TV, literary and graphic novel properties were presented by 24 adaptation rights sellers, hailing from Finland, Mexico, France, Iceland, India, the U.K., Germany, Russia, Belgium and Ukraine.

Basic Lead, the event’s organizers, are planning to hold an event targeting European adaptation rights buyers in Paris, and another for North American adaptation rights buyers in Los Angeles.

“We wanted the 2011 edition to be marked by a diversity of ‘dark’ European thriller genres from countries that are not necessarily on everybody’s radar,” comments Francoise Lazard, the executive manager of The Remakes Market. “And the overwhelming interest for crime stories from Finland, Iceland, Russia and Ukraine proved us right.”

“Although it is too early to announce signed deals,” added Lazard, “some have been pencilled and we believe that this edition will be remembered as being very productive.”

Patrick Jucaud, the general manager of Basic Lead, said, “Our ambition for 2012 is to continue to develop our L.A.-based market and to also bring to Paris hidden remakes gems and great stories from America and Asia, with strong adaptation potential, on a par with Europe’s eclectic film and television creative trends. In addition, we are already discussing plans for an Asian market in 2013.”
