Ten Alps Plans Broadband Peace Channel

LONDON, February 2: Bob Geldof’s production company, Ten
Alps, has signed a deal to develop a proposal for a global broadband “Peace
Channel,” with Brian Lapping on board as one of the project’s architects.

Slated for a 2008 rollout, the Peace Channel will include
video, user-generated content and social network features. It is being funded
by Point of Peace, a Norwegian human rights organization that supports, according
to its website, Nobel Peace Prize Laureates who are “in urgent need of media,
dialogue and communication assistance in their home countries and
internationally.”

Ten Alps Digital has been commissioned to develop a
blueprint for the service, including a business plan and details on program
production, design, technical systems and marketing. The project team will
include Bob Geldof, Ten Alps non-executive director; Nigel Dacre, the MD of Ten
Alps Digital; and Brian Lapping, of Brook Lapping Productions. A decision on
whether to go forward on the project will be made by Point of Peace in the
fall.
