Televisa Files Suit Against Univision

LOS ANGELES, July 20: Grupo Televisa has filed a lawsuit
against Univision Communications over the rights to distribute its programming
online in the U.S.

According to published reports, Televisa is seeking a ruling
from a Los Angeles Superior Court judge on whether its programming supply deal
with Univision prohibits it from broadcasting that content online in the U.S.
Televisa’s supply deal with Univision is valid until 2017.

The Mexican media company is currently exploring its options
in the U.S. market, debating on whether or not to retain its 11.4 percent
Univision stake, sell it off to the consortium of investors buying the Hispanic
broadcaster for $12.3 billion, or make a renewed bid for the company.
