Teletubbies Renews Toy Licensee

LONDON: BBC Worldwide has renewed its contract for Tomy to serve as the master toy licensee across Europe for the Teletubbies brand for the next three years.

Tomy has held the U.K. master toy license for the brand since 2001 and in France since 1998. Tomy will launch new Teletubbies products in 2009, including Teletubby Bob Along Bath Toys for the youngest fans and Po’s Matching Game, a unique game bringing the most popular Teletubbies character to life.

Anna Hewitt, the head of international licensing at BBC Worldwide, said: "The Teletubbies have a unique and enduring appeal for preschool children but with a constantly renewing audience base it’s paramount that we retain a creative edge. Tomy is the ideal partner to ensure we continue to deliver on innovation for this age group, and we’re delighted to be continuing our long-standing relationship with them."

Joanne Gray, the European head of business for Tomy, added, "Tomy is delighted to have renewed its contract with BBC Worldwide to develop Teletubbies toys. Our range is extremely popular with parents and children who love the soft and cuddly Teletubbies toys with realistic and engaging play features. Tomy has exciting plans for the brand, developing more new and innovative toys which will expand the range across categories and bring joy to new and existing Teletubbies fans across Europe."
