LONDON: The Syfy channel in the U.K. has shored up the rights to the American superhero drama The Cape from NBCUniversal International Television Distribution.

The ten-part series comes to British audiences on July 21. It is a Universal Media Studios and BermanBraun production from executive producer/creator Tom Wheller, and executive producers Gail Berman, Lloyd Braun, John Wirth and Gene Stein.

The Cape is about an honest cop on a corrupt police force who is framed for murder and forced into hiding. He becomes “The Cape,” his son’s favorite comic book hero, and battles the criminals who now run the city.

It stars David Lyons (ER, Sea Patrol), Keith David (Requiem for a Dream, Mr. and Mrs. Smith), Summer Glau (Firefly, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles), James Frain (24, Flash Forward) and Vinnie Jones (Snatch, X-Men 3: The Last Stand).

The Cape will appeal to science fiction and U.S. drama fans alike,” said Laurence Dawkin-Jones, the U.K. managing director of Universal Networks International. “We are delighted to be adding it to our lineup of exclusive U.K. premiere content and giving U.K. audiences the opportunity to experience this unique and gripping drama.”
