Southland Heads to TNT

ATLANTA: TNT has acquired the rights to air all six episodes produced for the second season of John Wells’ cop drama Southland, which was cancelled by NBC, as well as all seven episodes from the first season.

The series was initially renewed for a second season by NBC following its critically acclaimed first season, but was abruptly canned last month. The cancellation was made after six episodes of the new season had already been produced. TNT’s deal with Warner Bros. Television brings a total of 13 episodes, including the seven aired last season, to the network in January.

“This is a great win for fans of Southland and a perfect opportunity to introduce the series to new viewers,” said Steve Koonin, the president of Turner Entertainment Networks. “It’s also another outstanding example of how TNT has established itself as the go-to place for the best dramas on television.”

“We are extremely pleased that TNT has acquired all 13 episodes of Southland, giving devoted fans the opportunity to watch a show that they passionately support,” added Peter Roth, the president of Warner Bros. Television.
