Sony Preps Webisodes From Classic TV Shows

CULVER CITY, April 30: Sony Pictures Television is culling
its archive of TV dramas from the 1970s and 1980s to produce three and a
half-minute mobile clips, dubbed minisodes.

According to the New York Times, the studio will be repurposing shows like Charlie’s
Angels, T. J. Hooker and Starsky and Hutch. The clips are set to be launched in June via an
online service called the Minisode Network. They are expected to initially be
featured exclusively through MySpace.

Steve Mosko, the president of Sony Pictures Television,
explained to the Times that the
minisodes would be just that—the entire story of an episode, condensed
into a short-form clip. “So in Charlie Angels, they have a meeting, Charlie’s on the intercom
telling them what the assignment is, there’s a couple of fights, and then a
chase, and they catch the bad guy. Then they’re back home wrapping it up.”

Mosko continued: “We’ve been looking for a legitimate way to
make money from our library. Something that could bring new life to shows that
have been on the shelf for awhile.”
