SingTel Receives Trial IPTV License

SINGAPORE, November 7: SingTel has been granted a six-month
license by the Media Development Authority to trial an IPTV service in the
island nation. The news came as the telco announced a bid for the broadcast
rights to English Premier League matches from August 2007 to May 2010.

SingTel’s trial begins this month, featuring high-definition
content from MediaCorp Studios and MegaMedia. The telco has also applied for a
commercial pay-TV license to complement its existing VOD license, as it looks
to take on Singapore’s only cable platform, StarHub, which has been faring well
with its triple-play bundle of television, phone and online services.
