Sesame Workshop Secures Latin American Broadcast Deals

NEW YORK, May 7: Sesame Workshop has secured new terrestrial broadcast deals for Elmo’s World and Plaza Sésamo  in Latin America via its agent for the region, HOLA Entertainment.

Sesame Workshop reached an agreement with HOLA Entertainment in the fall of last year to further distribute its educational children’s programming throughout Latin America.

The new deals include an exclusive three-year agreement for Ecuavisa in Ecuador to air 65×30-minute episodes of Plaza Sésamo and 40×15-minute episodes of Elmo’s World as part of its children’s block. In addition, Corporacion Medcom Panama will be the exclusive broadcaster for 50×15-minute episodes of Elmo’s World on its terrestrial station for three years.

Plaza Sésamo features the furry and feathered Muppet characters Abelardo, Pancho and Lola. Each episode of the series combines animation, live action films and original music videos with segments produced on the Plaza Sésamo set to engage children and help them better understand the world around them. Elmo’s World is an interactive series that looks at the world through the eyes of a three-year-old. Each episode of Elmo’s World emphasizes exploration and fosters creativity, aided by the furry red Elmo.

“We are truly energized about establishing broadcast homes for Plaza Sésamo and Elmo’s World throughout Latin America with an agency that exemplifies our commitment to children across the region,” said Celia Schneiderman, Sesame Workshop’s manager of international television distribution. “HOLA is passionate and determined about addressing the needs of children with quality programming, and we look forward to working together on building a strong foundation of international broadcasters for Abelardo, Lola, Pancho and all their furry friends.”
