September Films Preps Doc on “Pregnant Man”

LONDON, July 14: The DCD
Media-owned September Films beat out four other British independent producers
for the rights to produce Pregnant Man, an hour-long documentary that has been acquired by Channel 4 in the
U.K. and Discovery in the U.S.

Channel 4’s Simon Dickson,
the deputy head of documentaries, acquired the U.K. TV rights, and distribution
company NBDtv/DCD Media is licensing rights internationally. Deals are close to
being finalized in the U.S. and Germany.

September Films has gained
exclusive documentary access to Thomas Beatie, formerly known as Tracy, and his
family, sharing his story of a sad childhood, transgender issues as a teenager
and how he became the first man to give birth. The documentary will chronicle
the days leading up to the birth, through the delivery of Thomas and his wife
Nancy’s baby girl and finally the return home afterwards to see how the couple
copes with the media attention.

Sheldon Lazarus, the
creative director and executive producer for September Films, said: “This
controversial and unique story has made Pregnant Man one of the most sought after stories to film.
September Films is gaining a truly global reputation for producing these types
of documentaries and handling the subject matter in a responsible and sensitive
manner.”
