SBS Presenting Australia Doc

SYDNEY: First Australians, produced over six years by Australian Aboriginal filmmakers Rachel Perkins and Darren Dale, leads off the slate of SBS Content Sales for MIPDOC and MIPTV.

The multiplatform project encompasses seven episodes, an online experience, educational and retail DVD, a hard cover pictorial book and a community outreach program. First Australians chronicles the birth of contemporary Australia and explores what unfolds when the oldest living culture in the world is overrun by the world’s greatest empire. It combines archival footage and photography with a host of interviews with historians and Aboriginal leaders.

"First Australians comes alive through the struggles of individuals, both black and white," said SBS Content Sales & Distribution’s national manager, Sharon Ramsay-Luck. "It is both captivating and compelling—and is thoroughly deserving of the acclaim received for the innovative, accessible way in which it tells this epic story. We’re proud that viewers outside of Australia will now have the chance to experience this groundbreaking series."
