RTÉ Names Acquisitions Editor

Gráinne McAleer has been appointed as acquisitions editor at RTÉ, reporting to Dermot Horan, director of acquisitions and co-productions, beginning in January.

McAleer has been a factual commissioner at the Irish pubcaster for two decades, currently serving as commissioning editor for documentaries and features.

RTÉ’s director of video, Steve Carson, noted: “Grainne is an exceptionally experienced commissioner with deep knowledge of global content trends and a keen understanding of Irish audiences. I’m delighted that she will be joining our exceptional acquisitions team in a key role that will help drive audience growth on RTÉ Player while supporting our strong linear services.”

Horan added: “We are so lucky to be able to appoint Gráinne, who has such a wealth of knowledge and experience, not just of Irish programming, but of the international marketplace. As viewers move more and more to an on-demand world the role of acquisitions in providing key programming to the RTÉ Player, whilst at the same time maintaining large portions of the television schedule, becomes of paramount importance, and Gráinne will be instrumental in growing this offering.”

McAleer said, “There has never been such a rich vein of international content and I’m looking forward to playing my part in bringing our viewers as much of that as we can to complement our fantastic home-production on TV and Player.”
