Portfolio Entertainment’s Chinatown Cops Heads to TELETOON

TORONTO, June 10: The
Detour
on TELETOON Pilot Project
has greenlit Portfolio Entertainment’s first prime-time animated series, Chinatown
Cops
, for premiere in spring 2009
on the Canadian animation channel’s teen/adult programming block.

Produced and distributed
worldwide by Portfolio Entertainment, Chinatown Cops is financed through TELETOON and the Canadian
Television Fund. Geared towards the 18-to-35 demographic, Chinatown Cops takes place in a diverse urban reality open to outrageous feats of
imagination but grounded in the continuing dilemmas surrounding the crime wave
that has hit Chinatown. The crime wave enshrouds everything from the
mom-and-pop laundromat to the giant dim sum restaurant in a dangerous veil of
crime and corruption.

“The crime fighting duo in
Chinatown Cops will draw
audiences in, making it an ideal project to start off our new line of
prime-time animation production and we believe the Detour on TELETOON is the perfect launch pad for the
series,” said Lisa Olfman, the president and co-founder of Portfolio
Entertainment. “We knew from day one we had something special with Howie and
Dave. We love the way East comes crashing into West and lands right in the
heart of Chinatown.”

“Cops and crime-solving
series are perennially popular and Chinatown Cops will bring something completely new to this genre
and Detour,” added Michael
Goldsmith, the director of original content at TELETOON. “With its witty banter
and blend of suspenseful yet surreal storylines, Chinatown Cops is an irresistible mix of humor, intrigue and
action with striking visuals that further elevate the show’s high concept.”
