Planet Green Stocks Up on Acquired Series

SILVER SPRING: Planet Green is to host the U.S. premiere of five new series acquired from Canada and the U.K. that will debut during Premiere Week 2010, which kicks off January 4.

On January 4 at 10 p.m., the 4×1-hour Blood, Sweat & Takeaways will make its debut. Produced by Ricochet and distributed by Outright Distribution, the series follows a group of six young fast-food junkies who spend a month finding out the truth about how their favorite foods are produced. On January 6 at 8 p.m., Big Chef Takes on Little Chef, a TwoFour Broadcast production distributed by Digital Rights Group, launches its four-episode run. The series watches chef Heston Blumenthal take on the challenge of transforming an old-fashioned chain of roadside cafes to put them back on the map. In Conviction Kitchen, which kicks off January 6 at 10 p.m., chef Marc Thuet and his wife and business partner Biana Zorich turn a motley crew of ex-cons into their culinary protégés. The show is produced and distributed by Cineflix.

Further acquisitions to make their debut in early 2010 include Blood, Sweat & T-Shirts, another Ricochet production distributed by Outright, and The Woman Who Stopped Traffic, produced by Silver River Productions and distributed by FremantleMedia.

Dan Russell, the VP of programming and scheduling at Planet Green, commented: “We have searched the globe for compelling personal journeys that inspire how we think, live, and work together to create change within our own environment. We will continue to seek additional stories domestically and internationally to air on Planet Green that bring innovative storytelling to the forefront for our audience.”
