LONDON: Peter Bazalgette, a media consultant and former chief creative officer of Endemol, has been appointed as the president of the Royal Television Society (RTS), while Mike Darcey, the COO of BSkyB, has been elected chair of the board of trustees.

Meanwhile, Caroline Thomson, the BBC’s COO, has joined the board for the first time. These changes follow the passing of Sir Robert Phillis, who was the president and chair of the board of trustees. The RTS board of trustees also includes Paul Corley, Carolyn Fairbairn, Wayne Garvie, Jane Lighting, David Lowen, Grant Murray and Graeme Thompson.

Bazalgette said: “I’m honored and stimulated to take the role of RTS president at a time when all television organizations and businesses are redefining their scope and purpose. I’m confident the RTS will continue to lead the debate on the key issues and welcome in many new players.”

Darcey added: “I’m delighted to have become chair of the board of trustees for the RTS. Television finds itself at a particularly exciting and fast changing point in its history and I’m sure the RTS, supported by its trustees, will continue to play an important role in helping the television community successfully navigate change.”
