Novel Entertainment Brings Princess Mirror-Belle to Television

LONDON, November 16: Novel
Entertainment has signed a development deal to create a new television series
based on Julia Donaldson’s internationally renowned Princess Mirror-Belle children’s books.

Julia
Donaldson is the award-winning author of many best-selling children’s books
including The Room on the Broom, The Snail and the Whale and The Gruffalo, which is the top-selling children’s picture book
in the U.K. Her Princess Mirror-Belle books, published by Macmillan and illustrated by
Lydia Monks, are a favorite among girls aged 6-10.

This
will be the first time that her books have been brought to the small screen.
Novel has optioned all TV, film and home entertainment rights to the Princess
Mirror-Belle
books from the
author. The three books in the franchise Princess Mirror-Belle, Princess Mirror-Belle and the Magic Shoes, Princess Mirror-Belle and the Flying Horse are being developed as a live-action comedy-drama
series.

“Julia
Donaldson is one of the U.K.’s best loved children’s authors and we are
delighted to be bringing her beautifully written books to life with our new
live action series,” says Mike Watts, the director of Novel Entertainment.
“This deal continues our strategy of producing quality signature children’s
programming, and takes us for the first time into live action drama.”

Novel,
the independent producer behind the preschool shows Fimbles and The Roly Mo
Show
, seeks to establish itself as
the production company of choice for leading children’s authors. The company is
currently in production on a new animated series based on Francesca Simon’s
acclaimed Horrid Henry books,
which debuted on CiTV 31 October.
