NGCI to Premiere Granada Co-Production in May

WASHINGTON, D.C., May 2: National
Geographic Channels International (NGCI) is co-producing Micro Safari: Journey
to the Bugs with Nigel Marven
with Granada
Wild, with plans to launch the ITV commission in May.

Micro Safari follows intrepid adventurer Nigel Marven and his team
as they shrink to the size of a human fingernail and spend the next 24 hours
exploring the wonders of their own backyard. Throughout their quest, the team
experiences some very close encounters, from wood ants with military precision
to predatory ladybugs and a spider’s silken snares.

NGCI will also pair the program
with its own behind the scenes special, The Making of Micro Safari with
Nigel Marven
. The special takes viewers
behind the scenes to find out how these incredible moments were created. Film
crew members also explain how they adapted restricted military technology to
create a thermal imaging camera that has the ability to provide images of a
bumble bee heating itself up to fly. Viewers also learn how special slow-motion
filming techniques and macro-photography capture footage of insects and
predators in both natural and studio environments.

Micro Safari is Honey I Shrunk the Kids, but with real science and fascinating views of the
microscopic world around us,” said Sydney Suissa, the executive VP of content
for NGCI. “It transports the audience into a world unlike any they have
experienced before.”
