NGCI Renews Taiwanese Doc Series

WASHINGTON, D.C./TAIPEI, December 10: National Geographic Channels International
(NGCI) has renewed its alliance with the Government Information Office (GIO) of
Taiwan for the award-winning series Taiwan
to the World
.

The co-funded series is
intended to foster the development of high-definition documentary production in
Taiwan. Local filmmakers are given the opportunity to produce up to nine hours
of HD content for the international market, to be aired on the NGCI channels,
over the next three years. Plus, the Taiwan
to the World
specials The Pigeon Game
and Black Bears Unleashed will air on
NGC in the U.S. early next year.

GIO and NGCI are also
teaming to chronicle the 21st Summer Deaflympics, which will be held in Taipei,
Taiwan, in September 2009. The Deaflympics documentary will premiere in Asia on
NGC in 2010, coinciding with a U.S. premiere screening in Washington, D.C., at
Gallaudet University, a liberal arts university for the deaf and hard of
hearing.
