New Sherlock Holmes to Air on Nine Network

SYDNEY: BBC Worldwide Australia has sold the new 3×90-minute contemporary re-imagining of Sherlock Holmes to Nine Network in Australia, where it will air later this year.

A Hartswood Films production, the new series is set in modern-day London. It stars Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman as the duo of Sherlock and Dr. John Watson. Sherlock is co-created and written by the recently appointed head writer for Doctor Who, Stephen Moffat, and fellow Doctor Who writer Mark Gatiss.

Sherlock is sure to capture the imagination of fans old and new with its combination of classic detective work and contemporary crime,” said Amber Knight, BBC Worldwide Australia’s head of TV sales.

“This new production of Sherlock will be a valuable addition to our schedule later this year,” added Michael Healy of Nine Network. “The BBC produce this style of drama well and audiences in Australia traditionally embrace it."
