New Original Movies from MTV

NEW YORK: MTV is releasing a slate of original movies that includes My Super Psycho Sweet 16 and Turn the Beat Around.

Currently in production, My Super Psycho Sweet 16 follows Madison Penrose, a girl who gets everything she wants, including her wish to re-open the Rollerdome for her 16th birthday. The site of several grisly murders a decade earlier, the Rollerdome turns deadly when the killer returns to crash her party. The film is set to air in late October following its theatrical run. Turn the Beat Around is set in the competitive L.A. dance scene. A struggling young dancer convinces a wealthy club owner to open a modern disco, where people can meet and connect through dance. In the process, her personal and professional lives collide when she’s caught between the club’s young owner, her dancer boyfriend and the overly ambitious choreographer she might be about to replace.

Inspired by the hit MTV series Made, a movie is currently in development of the same name. The comedy features an A-list cheerleader who helps a D-list band nerd achieve her dream of making the squad.

"Our mission is to redefine the creative canvas of MTV with a diversity of content in a variety of formats," said Tony DiSanto, the president of MTV programming. "Storytelling is in our DNA, and feature films for television are the next natural step of progression for us. We are thrilled to be in this game."
