NBCU Profit Up 2 Percent

NEW YORK/FAIRFIELD, July 16: Despite posting a 6-percent
drop in revenues, NBC Universal’s profit for the second quarter rose 2 percent
to $904 million.

The company’s revenues fell 6 percent to $3.6 billion for
the quarter, and 15 percent for the first half of the year, to $8.3 billion.
Profit for the first half of the year rose 4 percent to $1.6 billion.

The results were announced as part of parent company General
Electric’s financial statement for the period. The conglomerate posted revenues
from continuing operations of $42.3 billion, a 12 percent gain. Earnings from
continued operations rose 12 percent to $5.4 billion.

Chairman and CEO Jeff Immelt noted that NBC Universal’s
gains were driven by the cable, film and digital segments. “Its current
operating improvements coupled with a successful upfront provides a solid
foundation for future performance,” Immelt said.
