NBC’s Peacock Productions Signs Environmentalist for New Series

NEW YORK, December 7: British adventurer and
environmentalist David de Rothschild has been tapped to host a new
environmental series pilot produced by NBC's Peacock Productions for the
Sundance Channel.

Peacock Productions, NBC’s nonfiction production unit, has
begun production on the exclusive series pilot for the Sundance Channel, which
looks at the environmental impact of a myriad of objects on everyday life. A
title for the series has not been announced.

In 2005, de Rothschild founded Adventure Ecology, an
independently run organization that uses adventure, education and the arts to
address global sustainability issues. This organization uses the excitement of
daring expeditions to inspire interest in environmental issues among school
children. In 2007, de Rothschild led an expedition to the Ecuadorian rainforest
documenting the damage international oil companies had created by drilling the
vast oil reserves. He also wrote the Live Earth Global Warming Survival
Handbook
, which was the official companion
book to the Live Earth concert series.

De Rothschild has traveled to some of the world's most
remote and fragile regions. In 2006, he spent more than a 100 days crossing the
Arctic from Russia to Canada, becoming one of only 42 people to have
accomplished this, as well as the youngest British person to ever reach both
geographical poles. This past year he was presented with National Geographic's
Emerging Explorer award for its class of 2007, the World Economic Forum made
him a Young Global Leader, and GQ Magazine
gave him the accolade of Environmentalist of the Year.

"David is a fresh voice championing the environmental
issues of our day," said Sharon Scott, the senior VP of Peacock
Productions. "His passion for the environment and endless sense of
adventure make him an ideal messenger for our informative and entertaining programming
geared towards a younger audience."
