UNIVERSAL CITY: NBC has teamed up with Volkswagen of America for a web series based on the hit comedy Parks and Recreation, with the five-episode, online-only plot line to feature the characters embarking on a road trip.

The November 3 episode of Parks and Recreation featured Andy (Chris Platt) discussing his "bucket list" with April (Aubrey Plaza). The couple are then inspired to take a road trip out west, which sets up the premise for the online extension. The web series, available on NBC.com, picks up as the couple start their 60-hour journey across America. The online show will also debut "Road Trip" digital features, including an interactive map of the journey and user-submitted photos of parks and recreation departments from across the country, as well as an extended producer’s cut of that night’s episode, featuring never-before-seen moments.

Volkswagen will help bridge the on-air story with the online plot, as the two "borrow" April’s dad’s Passat to head out on the road.
