Murdoch Advisor Leaving News Corp.

NEW YORK: Gary Ginsberg, News Corporation’s executive VP of global marketing and corporate affairs, and close advisor to Rupert Murdoch, is stepping down at the end of the year.

“Gary has been one of my most trusted and effective executives over the past decade,” said Rupert Murdoch, Chairman and CEO of News Corporation. “He developed and expertly managed our corporate affairs efforts, spearheaded initiatives that added significant value to our businesses, and is as well-liked and respected a colleague as any in our company. As difficult as it was to accept his decision to leave, I am pleased he has agreed to continue to serve as an advisor.” Ginsberg will remain as a consultant to Murdoch.

Ginsberg joined News Corp. in January 1999 as executive VP for corporate communications, and over the next eleven years, expanded his portfolio of responsibilities to include investor relations, corporate social responsibility, and global marketing. He was named to News Corp.’s Executive Management Committee in 2000, and in 2007 was named to the seven-member Office of the Chairman.

“This has been the experience of a lifetime and I will always be grateful to Rupert for the many opportunities he’s given me over the years,” said Ginsberg. “It was a difficult decision to leave a company that has been such a vital part of my life and I’ll miss the many talented colleagues who have helped make this such a thrilling and fascinating ride. But I’ve been thinking about leaving for a while now to pursue something new, and this seemed like the right time to do it.”

Following Ginsberg’s departure, Teri Everett, News Corporation’s senior VP for corporate communications, will become the new head of corporate communications and corporate social responsibility; Reed Nolte, senior VP for investor relations, will assume the top position in investor relations.

Ginsberg was formerly a lawyer in the Clinton White House and also a founding editor of George, the magazine started by the late John F. Kennedy, Jr, who was a friend of Ginsberg’s at Brown University.
