MTV Video Music Aid Japan to Benefit Red Cross

TOKYO: The live television music event MTV Video Music Aid Japan, featuring entertainers such as Lady Gaga, is slated to air on June 25 in Asia, with all proceeds going to the Japanese Red Cross.

Top stars in global, regional and Japanese entertainment such as Namie Amuro, Kana Nishino, Tokio Hotel and more are expected to perform at the event, which is taking place at Makuhari Messe convention center in Chiba prefecture. MTV Japan VJ Joann will host a live webcast of red carpet arrivals, while all-girl idol group AKB48 heads up the main event.

The broadcast will go live on MTV in more than 30 million homes across Japan, Korea, China and Southeast Asia via cable, satellite and national and regional terrestrial channels.

MTV Japan stated that Music Aid is replacing the tenth annual MTV Music Video Awards Japan in response to the March 11 earthquake and tsunami disasters that occurred there.

A one-hour version of the program will air to more than half a billion homes globally on MTV channels as part of MTV’s weekly live music series MTV World Stage on July 29.
