MTV Czech Set for November Launch

PRAGUE/LONDON: TV Nova and MTV Networks International (MTVNI) are to launch MTV Czech, available to audiences in the Czech Republic and Slovakia, on November 29.

Available via cable, satellite and IPTV, MTV Czech will be a fully localized service offering youth-oriented programming 24 hours a day. The schedule will draw from MTV’s existing library that includes shows such as Nitro Circus and Cribs. A Czech-language website will support the channel.

MTV Czech will be offered as part of TV Nova’s bouquet of terrestrial and cable entertainment and thematic channels. The new offering will become the third thematic channel in the TV Nova portfolio, following Nova Cinema and Nova Sport.

Petr Dvorak, the general director of TV Nova, said: “This is an exciting addition to TV Nova’s portfolio of thematic channels. Our youth audiences are already familiar with the MTV brand and the launch of this localized service illustrates our dedication to servicing our viewers. A music and lifestyle channel is a good complement to our existing group of thematic channels—film and serial channel Nova Cinema and sport channel Nova Sport.”

Levente Málnay, the general manager and VP of MTV Networks Hungary and emerging markets for MTVNI, who oversees operations for MTV Czech, commented: “There has been tremendous interest in MTV Czech since we announced our plans to launch the service in the Czech Republic and Slovakia. This will be the 13th localized MTV channel launched by the emerging markets group, and we are committed to providing our audiences with innovative premium content across multiple media platforms.”
