PARIS/KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian delegation at MIPTV, led by the Multimedia Development Corporation (MDeC) and the National Film Development Corporation Malaysia (FINAS), secured deals worth more than $41 million in Cannes last week.

The 15-member contingent included Animasia Studio, Backbone Entertainment, Cartoon4Kids, Ed-Online, Elite Animation, Inspidea, Just Mobile, Moon Fx, Nafalia Corporation, Peppermint Productions, Primeworks Studios, Total Sports Asia, Worldwide Rights Corporation, Vision Animation and Young Jump Animation. In the first four days of the market, 575 meetings took place at the Malaysian Pavilion, generating 139 "high potential" deals worth more than $130 million, MDeC reports.

“Approximately 60 Malaysian animation titles were made available during MIPTV 2010 from its newly completed MSC Malaysia Animation Content Catalog and as high as 50 percent of its programs were sold to worldwide broadcasters and distributors," said Adam Ham, MDeC’s entertainment and media specialist. "The success of MSC Malaysia companies is something that we are extremely proud of. Only MSC Malaysia’s fifth year at MIPTV, we have quickly established ourselves as a competent local expertise capable of producing Malaysian content that encompass national values and focusing on world-class IP creation."

MIPTV deals for Malaysian companies included Ed-Online Technologies’ $15 million agreement with Korea’s NHC Media; and Elite Animation’s $3 million deals each with Imagimax Studios (Thailand) and Everest International Distribution (U.S.). Plus, $20 million was generated on properties from Animasia, Backbone Entertainment, Cartoon4Kids, Elite Animation, Inspidea, Nafalia Corporation, Peppermint Productions, Vision Animation and Worldwide Rights Corporation.
