LIVING Commissions New Reality Dance Series

LONDON, June 21: British cable network LIVING has
commissioned Granada Entertainment to produce a brand new ten-part reality
series, Dirty Dancing: The Time of Your Life, for premiere this fall.

The new series coincides with the film’s twentieth
anniversary, and will take eight pairs of British dancers to the original location
of the feature film Dirty Dancing. The
couples will consist of a female who has had some dancing experience and a
slightly older male who is an accomplished dancer, in an attempt to recreate
the relationship dynamic between the movie’s two main characters Baby and
Johnny. There, the participants will dance and train in all the famous sites of
the film location and working hotel, vying to be the last couple dancing at the
end of the series and to win a dance-related prize. The series will also feature
a judging panel that will send one couple home at the end of every episode,
based on their performance in front of an audience consisting of the real-life
guests staying at the Mountain Lake Resort.

Dirty Dancing: The Time of Your Life has been commissioned by LIVING’s head of
commissioning, Clare Hollywood, and will be executive-produced by Glen
Middleham. Ed Sayer will serve as series editor and the series producer will be
Andrew Robertson from Granada Entertainment.

Hollywood commented: “With Dirty Dancing we wanted to put a ‘LIVING twist’ on a very current
trend. The show isn’t about winning a role in the musical version or a
straightforward dance competition, this is all about giving people the
much-coveted Dirty Dancing
experience. Also, in its 20th
anniversary year, the series will work on many levels; to create nostalgia for
the fans, perhaps the potential for a little romance or fireworks between the
couples to bring every dream of being Baby or Johnny to life by reliving iconic
moments from the film.”
