KBS World Expands Asian Reach

SEOUL, August 28: KBS
World, the international cable and satellite channel operated by the Korean
terrestrial broadcaster KBS, has inked carriage deals in the Philippines and
Singapore.

Beginning September 1, the
channel will be available in the Philippines on cable operator Central CATV’s
basic tier, reaching about 1 million homes. On October 1, KBS launches on
Singaporean cable platform Starhub, reaching 300,000 households on the digital
basic service.

In related news, KBS has
entered into a strategic alliance with the leading terrestrial broadcaster in
the Philippines, ABS-CBN Broadcasting. The two companies will cooperate in the
areas of program distribution and co-production.
