VP of International Sales, APT Worldwide

At APT Worldwide, we have a really strong slate of programs for this coming market, especially in history, science and music. The powerful film The Battle of Durban II (1×60, 1×80) chronicles protests, disfunction and disarray during two United Nations conferences on racism. For Love of Liberty (2×120), hosted by Halle Berry, provides a definitive and compelling history of blacks in the military using an incredible roster of celebrity voices, dramatic re-enactments and painstakingly-researched archival footage.

In the medical/science genre, The Science of Healing with Dr. Esther Sternberg (1×60) is a fascinating look at the effects of environment, diet and exercise on the brain and the general well-being of people. This program reaches a very broad audience – anyone interested in living a healthy, stress-free life.

We are also offering a beautiful musical tribute to composer Leonard Bernstein called A Celebration of Leonard Bernstein filmed at Carnegie Hall with the San Francisco Symphony and featuring some of Bernstein’s most famous works. On the opposite end of the musical spectrum, we’re thrilled to be offering Ashes of American Flags (1×88, 1×30), a music documentary which goes behind-the-scenes at indie band WILCO’s 2008 tour (1×88, 1×30).

In addition to these titles, we have new programs in cooking, travel, sports, business and a very inspirational biography, as well as more science and social affairs. Most of our titles are shot in HD and we try to have something that will appeal to buyers in all the non-fiction genres. We are also working on securing rights to a “very special” documentary which we hope to bring to the market. Buyers can stop by our booth (16.23) to see what we have found!

At MIPTV, we look forward to seeing our colleagues from around the world again. We’re hoping for positive reports on economic conditions, although that may not be possible yet for some territories. We’ve worked hard to find some really great titles that will work for buyers from Australia to the Netherlands and everywhere in between.
