JCC Scores Awards for Written in the Wind

DOHA: Al Jazeera Children’s Channel (JCC) was presented with the award for best short documentary film in anthropology for Written in the Wind at the Jade Kunlun Awards during the World Mountain Documentary Festival in Qinghai, China.

The festival, dedicated to promoting sustainable and community-based development and environment protection in mountain and upload areas, recognized Written in Wind. The short documentary introduces ‘Silbo,’ the language of whistling, which represents a heritage unique to La Gomera island, one of the Canari Islands. This unique method of communication is under the threat of fading. The 26-minute doc illustrates the efforts made by the people and government of La Gomera to save ‘El Silbo’ by incorporating it into the official primary and secondary school curricula.
