What are some of your top properties for MIPCOM?

We are excited about what we have to offer this year at MIPCOM! We have three brand-new programs. Our first and wildly brilliant program is Happy Together, our edgy comedy about a grumpy catfish and an innocent mudskipper. It really represents the people who are behind our projects! Boo & Me, our co-production with KidsCo, is an entertaining series about two kids who are taking care of a cute orangutan and teaching him about the environment. These multitasking kids like to pile up responsibilities. Finally, we have Mat Kacau, a series we develop for Astro Ceria—Malaysia’s number one children’s channel— about an overexcited prankster who fails at entertaining and excels at annoying! Combined with our catalogue titles, it creates a range of products that is amazingly different in terms of target audience and humor. In short, we are celebrating our diversity at MIPCOM!

Why will these programs appeal to buyers?

Our new programs will appeal because they are hilarious, cute and bite-size! They are so wildly diverse that each one covers one area of the demographic. Boo & Me is for children, parents who practice environmental conservation, or people who really, really like orangutans. Mat Kacau is for the mass audience, pranksters who are looking for ideas, or people who like moustached characters. Lastly, Happy Together is for the teen audience, mature people who think growing up is overrated, or people who like fishy comedy. These new series will appeal to buyers instantly!

What are some of the trends you’re currently seeing in this market?

We are noticing a lot of responsible content programming recently. Things like green/environmental conservation are being rolled out. Also, programs that educate kids about the right and wrong things to eat are also coming out. So even if their parents are not green or diet kings, the kids still get something while watching their regular cartoon channel. It’s really about time that positive message is coupled with humor to subtly alter children’s minds to do the right thing. It’s the kind of stuff that we would do!

What are your goals and expectations MIPCOM?

It’s the first time we are launching several products in the market all at once, so we are cautiously excited. Excited because we are launching three brand-new products. Cautious because everyone is beginning to recover from this lousy economy. But we are confident that will make a good presence because we have something for everyone!

Is there any other information you would like to share regarding your plans for MIPCOM?

Regardless of how the economy swings, the bottom line is kids always need kids programming. So there will be sales out there—not a huge increase but it will there. No matter what happens, the creative people behind all of the programs in MIPCOM will still need to have fun and let the kid out. Otherwise, their cynicism will show and that’s not good. When life give you a whole bunch of lemons, you make lemonade and lemon meringue, and compost the refuse!
