UNIVERSAL CITY/LONDON: The subscription movies-on-demand service PictureBox in the U.K. has picked up the rights for a package of more than 30 films, including Match Point and La Vie en Rose, from Icon Film Distribution.

PictureBox is available in the U.K. on TopUp TV, Talk Talk TV, BT Vision and Virgin Media, which also offers the service in HD. Among the film titles from Icon that will be available through PictureBox are Apocalypto, Bridge to Terabithia, Dan in Real Life and What Women Want. Movies are refreshed on a weekly basis.

“The Icon agreement is a key development in the evolution of PictureBox,” said Belinda Menendez, the president of NBC Universal International Television Distribution. “This marks the first in a series of strategic acquisitions for the PictureBox lineup, further broadening its appeal as the must-have SVOD service in the U.K.”

“We are delighted to be working with NBC Universal to bring the best of Icon’s films to a U.K. audience via the PictureBox platform,” commented Ian Dawson, the general manager of Icon Home Entertainment UK. “We continue to explore fresh opportunities to maximize film revenues and felt that PictureBox offered the perfect platform for our first foray into SVOD.”
