Housewives Return to Win Time Slot

BURBANK, September 30: The
return of Desperate Housewives
on Sunday won its time slot on ABC, beating out NBC Sunday Night Football and
the return of Cold Case on CBS
with 18.4 million viewers.

Although down on the
fourth season opener, the season five premiere drew its largest audience since
January and was up on its May Sweep performance by almost 2 million viewers.

Announcing its Sunday
night results, ABC said it was on track to win the opening week of the season
in viewers and adults 18 to 49. Prime time kicked off with Extreme Makeover:
Home Edition
at 8 p.m., which beat
CBS’s The Amazing Race by 1.6
million overall viewers. Leading out of Desperate Housewives was Brothers & Sisters, back for its third season. It drew 12.4 million
viewers, ahead of The Unit on
CBS by 2.7 million viewers.
