Globes Top 24 in Ratings

LOS ANGELES, January 17:
The Golden Globes on NBC on Monday night out-rated the second part of the
two-night, four-hour 24
premiere on FOX, according to preliminary data from Nielsen Media Research.

The annual awards for TV
and film delivered 20 million viewers, versus the 15.7 million who tuned in for
hours three and four of 24,
which returned for its new season on FOX on Sunday night.

This is the second year in
a row that the Globes topped its broadcast competition, and marks the success
of moving the event to Monday night, after taking a battering by Desperate
Housewives
on Sunday nights.

The event drew in 16.8
million viewers in 2005, rising to 18.8 million last year. The biggest audience
ever for the Golden Globes was in 1998, when 24.5 million viewers watched Titanic win the award for best picture. While 24 did lose out to the event, ratings for the drama
were up from the 14.9 million who watched last season’s first episode.
