TORONTO: The hit original drama Rookie Blue returns for a second season this summer on Global, alongside the all-new series The Hot Zone.

Rookie Blue had the most watched inaugural season of any scripted Canadian drama in two decades. The series returns June 16 at 10 p.m., in simulcast with ABC in the U.S. Rookie Blue follows as the newbie police officers featured in season one are more experienced and more eager to get into high gear.

The following week, on June 21, the show The Hot Zone (working title) makes its debut. The fictional medical procedural is set in 2006 at the only military hospital providing surgical care in all of Southern Afghanistan.

"Rookie Blue was an unprecedented success, and The Hot Zone (working title) has all the markings of another hit drama. We know we have another great show on our hands and we’re pleased to have this opportunity to further solidify our relationship with ABC," commented Barbara Williams, the senior VP of content at Shaw Media. "Based on the strength and the excitement surrounding these two shows, they are the perfect pillars to the Global 2011 summer schedule."
