Fresh TV’s Tween Animated Reality Series to Premiere on TELETOON

TORONTO, June 22: This July, Canada’s TELETOON will launch
the animated tween reality series Total Drama Island, from Fresh TV, the creators behind the award-winning
series animated series 6Teen.

The half-hour series launches on TELETOON on Sunday, July 8,
at 8 p.m., and will air in its regular time slot of Thursdays and Sundays at
8:30 p.m. Total Drama Island was created
by Fresh TV’s Jennifer Pertsch and Tom McGillis. The series is set in a remote
summer camp in Northern Ontario where a group of teenagers are forced to endure
a summer of leaky cabins, crappy food and insane challenges. However, only one
camper will win, and the rest will walk the dreaded Dock of Shame.

Fresh TV worked with Reactorz Research to survey potential
tween viewers aged 8 to 12 to determine the viewing habits and preferences of
this demographic. They discovered that the four most popular television shows
for this demo were animated series, but tweens had a strong appetite for
reality television.

To reach tweens across all platforms, Fresh TV has also
teamed up with Xenophile Media to launch Total Drama Island—Totally
Interactive!,
an immersive website, on June
23, in advance of the series’ television premiere. The new website includes
customized avatars, 26 games, a weekly tabloid magazine tailored to each
player, and extends to mobile phones.

“We discovered that tweens have a definite preference for
reality shows that test people’s physical and psychological endurance,” noted
co-creator and executive producer Tom McGillis. “Tweens prefer to leave the
politicking to the adults and would rather laugh at the nasty characters who
don’t play fair. Based on these findings, Total Drama Island is packed with incredible challenges that could only
happen in an animated series and mercilessly mocks characters who scheme and
backstab.”
