Former Image, HBO Video Execs Set Up New Venture

LOS ANGELES: David Borshell, the former head of Image Entertainment, has teamed up with Andy Reimer, who was most recently at HBO Video, to launch Inception Media Group, an L.A.-based venture focused on the acquisition, production and distribution of films and other content across multiple platforms.

Inception Media Group is working with the investment-banking firm Raymond James to identify opportunities for building its content library. It will work with content creators and providers in the areas of theatrical exploitation and sales across all distribution platforms, including TV, DVD and new media. The company will also offer distribution-related consulting services and will assist third parties with home-video supply chain requirements, including packaged goods manufacturing, warehousing and order fulfillment.

Borshell spent more than two decades at Image, most recently serving as its president. Reimer was most recently the senior VP of acquisition and production for HBO Video and was the president of the Blockbuster subsidiary DEJ Productions. He has also held senior positions with Viacom, Lionsgate and Warner Bros. Joining the Inception team is Lisa Yedlin as senior VP of sales. Other hires will be announced in the coming weeks.

“Our collective relationships with content providers, exhibitors, retailers, distributors and technology companies is far-reaching," said Reimer. "When combined with our respective backgrounds, we believe that Inception will be able to bring quality films and other event programming to market effectively and efficiently. We look forward to working with our partners and helping them navigate the cultural and technological changes facing our industry."

"Our industry has seen its share of consolidation and change during the past couple of years which has led to a reduction of viable companies competing for quality programming,” added Borshell. "Andy and I have a tremendous amount of acquisition and distribution experience, and, by launching a new company together, we can provide content creators and owners a meaningful and much needed alternative."
