Final MIPTV Attendance Figures Released

PARIS, April 22: A total
of 13,360 people attended MIPTV featuring MILIA, according to organizers Reed
MIDEM, with representatives from 4,551 companies in 111 countries.

The figures show a small
gain on the 13,311 people and 4,548 companies who participated in the market
last April. This year’s event also saw a total of 22,068 square meters used for
exhibition space, the largest in MIPTV’s history. There were 528 stands across
the market’s exhibition space from 52 countries.

A strong gain was seen in
the number of acquisitions executives in attendance—a total of 4,422, a
16-percent rise on last year.

Announcing the numbers, Paul Johnson, the director of the television division at Reed MIDEM, noted: “The
2008 edition of MIPTV featuring MILIA was notable for the increased
participation of the new players who will be key to the future of our industry,
such as digital media and advertising.”

The market’s conference
program included 51 sessions featuring more than 140 speakers. The lineup
included Richard Dickson, the senior VP of worldwide marketing, media and entertainment at
Mattel Brands; Elisabeth Murdoch, the CEO and chairman of the Shine Group; and
Didier Lombard, the CEO and chairman of France Telecom Group. Other highlights
of MIPTV 2008 included NHK receiving the Green World Award for its commitment
to raising public awareness about the environment; the third edition of the
interactive media festival Content 360; and the third International Interactive
Emmy Awards. There were also several celebrities at the market, among them
Shirley MacLaine for the mini-series Coco Chanel, Sam Neill for Iron Road and Sir Derek Jacobi for Diamonds.

Prior to the start of
MIPTV featuring MILIA, the 11th edition of MIPDOC notched up record
participation with 504 companies attending from 60 countries, a 9-percent
increase on 2007. Of the 1,415 shows presented, 920 were new.
