ESS Teams with Malaysian Paralympic Council

KUALA LUMPUR: ESPN STAR Sports (ESS) has signed on as a regional media partner for the fifth ASEAN Para Games, kicking off its association with the Malaysian Paralympic Council.

As part of its involvement in the ASEAN Para Games 2009, which takes place from August 15 to 19 in Kuala Lumpur, ESS well lend on-air talent, programming know-how and the reach of its regional network to extend coverage to cable audiences in Malaysia and in the region. ESS will carry the Paralympic Council’s public-service announcements on air, and will also produce and run a special PSA clip featuring the SportsCenter Malaysia personalities promoting the games. ESS is also producing a special segment that will feature news highlights and score updates for the games for SportsCenter Malaysia and Score Tonight.

Manu Sawhney, the managing director for ESPN STAR Sports, said: “We’re very proud to be associated with the Malaysian Paralympic Council, starting with the fifth ASEAN Para Games. The Malaysian Paralympic Council has contributed so much towards developing sports events for Paralympic athletes in Malaysia and the dedication and commitment of the Paralympic athletes is a story that needs to be told. We are pleased to utilize our platforms and expertise to deliver their message and highlight these outstanding athletes and we look forward to working with the MPC on more such initiatives in the future.”

Malaysian Paralympic Council’s chairman, Y. Bhg Dato’ Zainal Abu Zarin, added: “This association with ESS is a welcome boost for the MPC as well as the games, as ESS is the leading sports network in Malaysia and the region. With ESS’ participation, we are confident we can now achieve the exposure which our athletes and the event deserve. I also urge all Malaysians to join us in supporting our amazing Paralympic athletes, who have given our country so much to be proud of. I wish all participants the best, especially as the ASEAN Para Games will mark countdown towards the London 2012 Paralympic Games.”
