ESPN Nabs UEFA Europa Rights for U.K.

LONDON: ESPN has picked up the rights to a package of UEFA Europa League (formerly UEFA Cup) matches for the U.K., on the heels of launching its new British channel.

Five and ITV had previously acquired the rights to the games for three seasons from 2009 to 2012, as had the now-defunct Setanta. The rights formerly gained by Setanta have been split between ITV and ESPN. ITV has obtained additional live matches throughout the season, and ESPN has purchased the rights to the remaining inventory.

ESPN’s new British channel also features Barclay’s Premier League, Scottish Premier League and Serie A, among other sporting events.
