Documentary Channel Launches Green Initiative

NASHVILLE, April 17: On Earth Day on Sunday, April
22, the Documentary Channel
(DOC) in the U.S. is launching a new EarthView programming block.

The new
destination, devoted to eco-friendly documentaries, will air every Sunday night
at 7 p.m. through the end of 2008. It launches this coming Sunday with the
25-minute documentary emPOWERed, produced by DOC in association with the EPA’s
Energy Star Program, the Alliance to Save Energy and The Art Center in Los
Angeles. The special will be followed by the documentaries Kilowatt Ours and Monumental.

emPOWERed is directed by award-winning
independent documentary filmmaker and human-rights activist J. Coll Metcalfe
and features EPA’s Energy Star, along with individuals leading the charge for a
mass movement to conserve energy. Kilowatt Ours is produced by independent filmmaker Jeff Barrie
and the Southern Energy Conservation Initiative and demonstrates ways to
conserve energy. Monumental, directed by independent documentarian Kelly Duane, explores the story
of David Brower and his colleagues' campaigns to protect and preserve National
Parks.
