Disney’s High School Musical 2 to Premiere in August

BURBANK, May 2: High School Musical 2, the sequel to the Emmy Award-winning hit Disney
Channel original movie, will premiere in the U.S. on Friday, August 17, in
prime time and will roll out globally on Disney Channels throughout the world
beginning in September.

Bill Borden and Barry Rosenbush (High School Musical) serve as executive producers of the sequel. Don
Schain (High School Musical) is
the producer. The sequel was filmed on location in Salt Lake City and St.
George, Utah. For the sequel, the entire creative team behind the first High
School Musical
was reassembled, with Emmy
Award-winning Kenny Ortega returning as director, along with fellow Emmy
Award-winning choreographers Charles Klapow and Bonnie Story. Former rock music
journalist Peter Barsocchini—who wrote the original movie—also
wrote the story and screenplay for the sequel. Returning cast members include
Zac Efron as star athlete Troy Bolton, Vanessa Hudgens as brainy transfer
student Gabriella Montez, Ashley Tisdale as drama club diva Sharpay Evans,
Lucas Grabeel as drama club idol Ryan Evans, Corbin Bleu as teammate and best
friend Chad Danforth, and Monique Coleman as academic decathlete Taylor
McKessie.

The upcoming premiere will be accompanied by a host of
on-air and online stunts. Beginning May 4, an interactive online game at the
Disney Channel website enables users to gradually unlock the High School
Musical 2
poster. On May 18, the full
poster will be available for printing.
