Discovery Takes HD Service to Malaysia

SINGAPORE: Discovery Networks Asia-Pacific has clinched a carriage deal for its Discovery HD World network with Malaysian platform Astro.

The deal brings the channel to the Astro B.yond package and to Astro’s B.yond IPTV offering. The lineup on the channel includes The World From Above, Ultimate Power Builders and Elizabeth 1: Killer Queen. With the Malaysian launch, Discovery now operates HD services in 10 markets in the region, including Australia, Hong Kong, India, Japan, the Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan and Vietnam.

Announcing the expansion of the channel, Tom Keaveny, executive VP and managing director of Discovery Networks Asia-Pacific, commented, “Astro has been a key partner for Discovery and we’re delighted to work with them to provide our audiences in Malaysia with Discovery HD World which offers viewers a viewing experience unlike any other—the best nonfiction content shot in HD.”
