Date Set for New Italian Satellite Platform Launch

ROME: TivùSat, the free satellite-TV platform owned by Rai, Mediaset and Telecom Italian Media, is set to launch in Italy on July 31.

The platform, in which Rai and Mediaset each hold 48.25 percent, with the balance 3.5 percent held by Telecom Italia Media, is Italy’s first free satellite service. Its coverage is nationwide, delivering access to the terrestrials—Rai Uno, Rai Due, Rai Tre, Canale 5, Italia 1, Rete 4, La 7—and new digital channels, including Rai 4, Boing, Rai Gulp, Iris, Rai News 24, Rai Sport Più, Rai Storia, Mediashopping, Class News, Sat 2000 and K2-Kids. The platform also plans to carry international services such as Euronews, France 24, BBC World News, TVE International, Canal 24 Horas, Arte, Deutsche Welle, ZDF, ARD and more. In total, TivùSat will host about 22 channels. 

Beginning this month, TivùSat decoders will be available for purchase from retail outlets.
