Conference in New York to Spotlight Latin Media Market

NEW YORK, July 25: The
2008 LMEC-LatinVision Convergence Conference: The Future of Latin
Entertainment, Media and Technology Markets, will be held in New York City,
featuring, among others, Univision’s Joe Uva
and Telemundo’s Don Browne.

The conference is being
staged by the Latin Media Entertainment Commission, an initiative of the New
York Mayor’s Office, and LatinVision, which operates business portals for U.S.
Hispanic and Latin American business entrepreneurs. It is set to be held
October 15 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the New York Times Center. It will feature
a range of figures from media, entertainment and technology markets discussing
New York’s position in the Latin media market in the U.S.

The lineup of keynote
speakers includes Univision’s CEO, Joe Uva; Telemundo’s CEO and president, Don
Browne; Manuel Garcia-Durán, the CEO of MioTV; John Paton, the CEO of
Impremedia; and Fernando Rodriguez, the CEO of Terra Networks.

“The LMEC Conference
highlights what the administration is doing to make New York the capital of
Latin media and entertainment,” said Carlos Manzano, LMEC’s executive director.
“By bringing together industry, investors, educational institutions and
government we’re developing an infrastructure that will retain, expand and
attract Latin media and entertainment, Hispanic advertising and new media,
increase tourism and make New York a destination to experience the best of
Latin culture at our LMEC events, and develop the media and entertainment
workforce.”

The panels slated for the
conference will include topics such as the adoption of new technologies by
Latino media and entertainment companies, the promotion of Latin American arts
and culture, case studies of new ventures and how they got started through
financing and networking events and best practices in training, recruiting and
retaining talent. In addition, there will be a three-hour networking business
reception at NASDAQ.
