Centric Staffs Up

NEW YORK: BET Networks’ recently launched channel Centric has appointed Essie Chambers as senior VP of original programming and Depelsha McGruder as senior VP of business operations.

Both Chambers and McGruder will report to Paxton Baker, the executive VP and general manager of the service, which launched at the end of last month, in place of BET J, targeting "African American and multicultural adults" 25 and up. McGruder is also a dual report to Scott Mills, the president and COO for BET Networks.

Chambers will oversee all aspects of original programming, create an original programming strategy as well as contribute to an overall network programming strategy. She will also manage the development of Centric’s current programming, music programming, special events production and talent relations. McGruder will spearhead the operating plan that supports the network’s strategic and financial goals as well as the business model.

Chambers was previously senior VP of programming for BET, a role she took on earlier this year after a stint as VP of Nickelodeon Original Movies. McGruder was previously acting general manager of MTV Tr3s.
